II) Introduction to Play Therapy – November 2021
A 4 weekend experiential course on Introduction to Play Therapy
“Play helps blend the KNOWN and the NEW, stretch the REAL and the POSSIBLE and work through the EMOTIONS of both.”
“Play is the most natural, self-guided, self-healing process known to man that helps us to shed our inhibitions, communicate our knowledge and experiences and learn to accept ourselves wholly. Play is a powerful yet non-threatening therapeutic tool that professional therapists can employ when working with very young children who do not yet have the gift of language, as well as with non-verbal adults. Play therapy helps with better social integration, growth and development, emotional regulation, and trauma resolution. Based on Jungian theory of symbols and Virginia Axline’s principles of non-directive approach, play therapy techniques can be applied as a tool of diagnosis as well as for healing emotional pain.
This workshop aims at equipping psychologists and counsellors with an understanding of the neuroscience underlying play and how it can be used effectively in a therapeutic setting. The workshop is highly experiential, and participants will get to use different tools, materials and mediums in the play therapy toolkit to experience the power of play. The workshop also aims at giving you hands-on training in the areas of play-way assessment and basic therapeutic methodology for clients of various age groups. You will be taken through the underlying concepts and provided with an opportunity to apply those concepts, both on yourself and on other participants present.”
