SUPERVISION SESSIONS AT EAST WEST CENTER FOR COUNSELLING & TRAINING

East West Center for counselling provides individual and group supervision sessions for therapist and counsellors.

Supervision has been defined as “A working alliance between the supervisor and the counsellor in which the counsellor can offer an account or recording of their work; reflect on it; receive feedback, and where appropriate guidance.” (Inskipp and Proctor, 2001, p.1)
According to the European Association for Counselling (EAC), Supervision is a contracted, professional relationship between two or more individuals engaged with counselling activities, which leads to reflection on the counselling situation and its structure while providing emotional support & advice, containment and the setting of clear boundaries for the counsellor and their counselling work.

Why supervision in counselling?
Counselling supervision is an ethical practice to allow a more experienced person in to give a different take which you might not have considered otherwise, it helps one to hear different perspectives and opinions to adapt a more rational and effective method to go about with the counselling session with their clients.

About the supervisor:
Magdalene Jeyarathnam  was certified in 2002 by Central School of Counselling Training (CSCT) London, UK and in January 2019 she was certified in the Rise up model which is an approved course by Australian Counselling Association ( ACA). She has been supervising expressive arts therapists and therapists working with individuals couples and groups. She is a board certified (Australia, New Zealand board) Psychodramatist  and Expressive arts therapist working with individuals, couples and groups including family groups in India. Magdalene has more than 25 years of experience in working with addiction, HIV/AIDS and mental health issues, she has worked with several state and central government agencies in India, She has also worked with UNICEF and WHO as counselling consultant on several projects. She is the founder of East West Center for Counselling which is an Expressive arts therapy center providing therapy services to schools, universities and organisations; She also founded the Indian Institute of psychodrama which is the first psychodrama training institute in India. She is one of the founding members of the Indian academy of professional supervisors; she is also on the board of directors of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and group Processes. She is a co-founder of Expressive Arts therapy Association of India. She is recently appointed as Co-Chair of the health and well-being vertical of IWN – CII (Indian Women’s Network – Confederation of Indian Industries), Tamil Nadu chapter.

We provide the following supervision services, for professionals practicing counselling and therapy.

1) Group supervision for therapists and counsellors
Every first Friday of the month
3 PM – 4.30 PM
Fee: Rs. 800 per session
